Treatment

Treatment provider

Persons convicted of sex crimes in San Diego County are required to attend a sex offender counseling program if they are granted probation. Similarly, a sex offender released on parole is generally required to attend counseling as a part of this/her community release. Statistics demonstrate that offenders in treatment are highly unlikely to re-offend. While there is no known cure for sex offenders, especially child molesters, treatment can provider offenders (and those around them) with tools to identify high risk behaviors that can lead to new offenses. San Diego SOMC's evaluation and treatment standards are used by the courts and supervision officers to help insure community safety. Providers are screened and evaluated on a regular basis. It is important to recognize that the vast majority of San Diego's registered sex offenders are not receiving treatment once they have been released from probation or parole.
